Do you have a sky-high K / D ratio on Call of Duty, is your FIFA Ultimate Team unbeatable, can you easily conquer all objectives in Star Wars Battlefront 2, and in Pokémon Ultra Moon completely full? Then you not only have too much free time, but according to scientists you are probably also brilliant.

Researchers at the University of York have researched the link between games and intelligence. They did this by observing League of Legends and Defense of the Ancients 2 players and having an IQ test taken. The outcome was very clear and surprising for the research team and audience. In almost all cases, the best players also had a higher IQ. Are you among the top in LOL or DOTA 2 video game? Then as per research there is a good chance that you proved yourself an excessively intelligent person.

Games as an IQ test

According to the researchers, there is also a logical explanation for this. These games do not only require quick reflexes, but especially strategic insight and the ability to keep an overview. These types of games train your brain on multiple points and thus help you to become smarter. So according to scientists, you could use games to measure someone’s intelligence.

This is wonderful news, of course, but wait a little longer before you dive behind your PlayStation again. The study only included LOL and DOTA 2 video game and these are completely different games than a Call of Duty or FIFA. According to scientists, this outcome does not apply, or at least to a lesser extent, for these games.

Be strategic

Are you not a fan of LOL and DOTA 2 and do you want to get smarter while gaming? Then take a more strategic approach at Call of Duty or dive deeper into the strategic options of FIFA 18. We can’t guarantee whether this will work, but at least it’s a good excuse to turn the PlayStation back on tonight.
