This Is How Much It Costs You to Charge Your Phone in a Year

Being a tech user is never easy. It comes with a lot of other responsibilities and things to look after. If technology is boon, then it is also a bane. The simplest and the most overlooked 10 is that you have to charge your phone almost every day. In the old times, that is in the early 2000s phones were very power-thirsty, and you would have to lock them after every few hours. As time changed, there have been many technological advancements and the charging time has decreased significantly. So now you don’t have to charge your phone after a few hours, charging your phone every day is fine as well. Sometimes people tend to leave their smartphones on the charging ports overnight and then plug them out in the morning. If someone does this every day, there is a chance that their smartphone consumes much electrical energy than needed.

People and smartphone users do not generally believe this when we tell them about the total amount of electricity their smartphones consume, so here is the math.

How much are we talking exactly?

Different phones consume different amounts of energy. When Some simple math was done on a yearly cost on an iPhone 11 it turned out that the cost of charging it was enormous. The cost to charge an iPhone 11 yearly is 55p. Same is the story with Samsung Galaxy S20. There isn’t much difference between the cost of iOS and Android.

We must keep in mind that iPhone 11 comes with the advanced technology of ultra-fast charging. It can be charged completely in about 1 1/2 hour as opposed to other phones that take much time. For example, the iPhone 6 used to consume 10.5 Watt per hour to charge taking almost 2 hours every day. Again simply multiply the 10.5 Watts per hour with 365 days and look into the amount you will have to pay to charge your phone yearly.

The maths:

Here is some of the math done because people do not believe the cost. If you have to, start with the cost of a kWh that is almost 10 P. Talking about an iPhone 11 we know that its charger is a 5-Watt charger that will charge the 3110 MH battery from empty to full in less than three hours.  You just have to multiply the 3R power time with the 5-Watt charger that will give you a total of 15W. This is the total amount of electricity your phone consumes every time you charge it from zero to 100%. The cost of almost 10p to 15W will make you stand at 0.15 P that is not even close to a full penny. This is how you save your money to charge your phone if you invest in a good one.

The same goes for Samsung Galaxy S20 ultra that has a 5000 mAh battery. It will get charged in just 57 minutes from zero percent when you use a super-fast 45 W charger. Now taking these 57 minutes and multiplying it with the 45 W charger output the total amount is 42.75W which equals to 0.4275 P when it comes to a total estimate.

Wrapping up:

This estimate is for the people who are still using power-consuming smartphones. They must shift to the advanced models of the smartphones that take or consume very less amount of electricity and do not charge you a lot yearly. It’s time that you forget your old devices and shifts to the new ones that can benefit you in every way from the consumption of electricity to your bank balance.
