Tips for Self-Care During Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a wonderful time, at which you witness your body changing, while it grows and nurtures a tiny human being. And while this is a wonderful thing, it can also be exhausting to your body, since it now needs double the energy just to function. So, put yourself (and your little bundle of joy) first, and follow our tips for self-care during pregnancy to fully enjoy every second of it!

Take Daily Walks

Spending time outside is such a crucial necessity during pregnancy. The fresh air can clear up any fogginess you may experience due to the hormonal change, and the sun can help lower the level of the stress hormone cortisol. Being active is also beneficial to your body, to help with the swelling, bloating, and just getting the blood flowing. So, we have combined these two, into – taking walks. Taking walks is a great way to spend time outdoors and have physical activity during the day. You can go for a walk alone, if you prefer it that way, bring a friend, or just put some music in your ears and stroll around the city for a while. It will do wonders for both your physical and mental health, guaranteed.

Pamper yourself

You must put your needs first, during the nine months you are pregnant. Remember, you are now carrying and caring for another life; maybe your needs are just a way for your body to tell you to slow down. You need to listen to your body, and if you are tired, rest. If you are dizzy, slow down, take a break.

People around you will inevitably shift their focus on the baby, putting you second. So, it is your job to take care of your needs first, whether it be a hair appointment, a spa day with a friend, or just reading a good book.

Superfoods

People will tell you to eat for two. You, however, will not make that mistake, because eating for two only makes for a larger amount of weight to shed later on. Instead, try eating pregnancy food. Maximize your daily intake with food specifically targeting the needs of both baby, and you. Foods that are rich in fibre and protein, such as eggs, lean meat, leafy greens, legumes, are a perfect way to help boost your immune system and give that baby some extra nourishment. Berries, sweet potato, and dried fruits are also recommended, but in moderation, because of the high fructose in them.

While keeping an eye on a perfect diet, still do indulge your cravings. After all, those can be a way for your body to tell you what it needs, other than what you are getting it.

Start Making Healthy Habits Now

Once the baby is here, you will not have much time to think about yourself. So, now is the perfect time to start implementing all those healthy habits you always said you were going to have.

Getting up early, having breakfast, journaling, doing physical activities, making a night routine – all that are going to be such effective habits once the baby is here, and your whole life is turned upside down.

Those habits, including having lots of water, because if you plan on breastfeeding (and even if you are not), your healing body will need a lot of hydration after birth.

To all the future mothers out there, you are growing a miracle, and whatever you can do to help your body during these nine months, do it. Self-care is imperative, for a positive pregnancy journey. And we hope you have one!
