Find out how to make your home more secure whilst you go away on a ski trip or winter trip during the colder months.
During the winter months, there are some great deals to be had on winter sun holidays. Or, if you want guaranteed snow, ski holidays are a great choice too. Whilst you are there, you want nothing to worry about but what you are going to have for breakfast, or how you are going to chose to relax that day. Unfortunately, during winter, crime can be on the rise as thieves know that people store Christmas presents in their homes. That creates an extra worry during your trip that can spoil your enjoyment.
To have a more secure home whilst you go on holiday, take a look at these handy tips:
Get Cheap Outdoor Lighting
Outdoor lighting is a really cheap way to deter thieves. A simple outdoor light at the front and back on the house set on a motion detector could be all you need to scare a thief off.
Setup Activity At Your House
Ask a friend to go in and out of the house whilst you are away. Somebody taking the post away, and generally being present when people go past, will help your home look more ‘lived in’ deterring thieves from trying to break in.
Get A Faux Alarm
You may not want an expensive alarm system, but you can get a cheap fake alarm to act as a thief deterrent. They cost less than £50, look real and you simply stick them on to the front of the house.
Leave Your Car On The Drive
If you can get a lift to the airport, you can leave your car on the drive, which tells people the house is not empty.
Have Lights On A Timer
It is one of the oldest tricks in the book, and yet, it still makes a lot of sense! Lights being switched on and off suggests activity in your home, which is great for telling thieves somebody is there.
Store Your Valuables
If you are worried about your valuables being stolen during a longer trip, then why not opt for cheap self storage? Self storage is low cost (compare some self storage costs here) and keeps your valuables secure during your trip. So if somebody does break in, you can at least know they won’t be stealing your valuables when they do so.
Invest In Better Barriers
There are new accessories and lock types you can buy that make it harder for a person to break into your home. Special locks that work with french doors/ patio doors are very new, but very effective at protecting an entry point that is particularly vulnerable.
There is a lot you can do to protect your home from break-ins over the winter holidays. Do be vigilant and do invest in better protection because it will only pay off in more peace of mind during your trip.
