If you want to configure and manage Netgear home router graphically using a simple application then, Netgear Genie is an app by Netgear is for you. Netgear Genie App is compatible with both Mac OS and Windows as well as Android and iOs. Using this Netgear Genie desktop application, even the normal person without technical knowledge can control & manage the home network from changing SSID to terminating non-authenticated users. You can even diagnosis the network connection in case if the home routers act weird.

To set up your router or extender you need to log on to Mywifiext.net for Setup. You will find the Netgear Genie Setup App, so you can download it and use for further steps. It is often designed to manage Netgear Mywifiext home routers, providing an easy dashboard to watch, manage and repair home networks. (Ensure that the router is running the most recent computer code, not all Genie functions are supported on older firmware).

With the NETGEAR genie, you can do all of this directly from your desktop

Speed Test

The speed test provides two methods for testing speed. One method measures how fast your PC can download website content, and the other one measures your ISP broadband speed

Guest Network

If your router supports a guest wireless network, you can view and change the settings for that guest network. A guest network allows others to use your wireless router to access the Internet but not content on other computers or devices on the same network.

To access the guest network settings, select Router Settings > Guest Access
You can easily change the wireless settings for the Guest network without logging in to the interface of your router by clicking the Modify button.

Network Map

Click on Network Map to see the router’s Internet connections and the devices that are connected to your router. A good connection is shown in green. A red line indicates a connection that is not working

If you select the “Notify me of new devices that connect to my network” check box, then every time a new device joins your network, you will get a notice on this PC through 192.168.1.250 IP .

Wireless Settings

You can view the current basic wireless settings for your router, including the wireless name (SSID), the channel selection, and the password if your network uses wireless security. To tod this, go to Router Settings > Wireless Settings. To change the wireless settings click the Modify button, make changes, and click Apply once you are done. If you are wirelessly connected to the router, you will lose your wireless connection and will need to re-connect.

Parental Control

The first time you select Parental Controls from the Home screen, genie checks to make sure that your router supports this feature. To setup Parental Control click Parental Controls

Tools

Select Network Support > Tools to display tools screen
The following tools are available

  • Ping: Use the ping utility to test a path from your computer to a destination you specify.
  • Trace Route: Use trace route to identify the route taken by data packets from your computer to the host.
  • DNS Lookup: Find the IP address of a host name (typically a website).
  • Computer Profile: View details about the computer that you are currently using, such as its current network connections and operating system.
