If you are passionate about hospitality and planning to eventually work in hotel management, then applying for a front desk clerk job can help you get your foot in the door.

Generally, one can start a career from a management role if you have a diploma from Hotel Management Colleges in Hyderabad After 10th and a good deal of hotel experience or hold a bachelor’s degree from Hotel Management Colleges in Hyderabad After 12th. Larger full-service hotels and big hotel chains usually require a degree requirement while smaller hotel properties generally accept an associate’s degree or a certificate course that is related to hotel operations or management.

A career in Customer service and Management

If you like serving people or the hospitality industry, then you can find a wider range of positions in a hotel and in the hospitality sector. Hotels usually expose teens to the hospitality industry and give them an opportunity to learn about basic things which can lead to higher-level customer service jobs or management positions.

Age will be the major trait in doing so. The minimum age can be between 16 and 18 years old.

Teens are usually allowed to work in hotels. The minimum age of work (16, 17, or 18 years old) fairly depends on the nature of the job, your state’s labor laws, and an organization’s own requirements for accepting teen candidates.

While teens may be able to pursue careers in food servicing roles at 16 years old, they usually need to be at least 18 years old to work in a front desk clerk role.

Customer service jobs open to teens.

Primarily Front desk clerk, Food serving Jobs, Housekeeping, etc are the major customer service positions offered to teens in hotels. 

  1. Front Desk Clerk

Teenagers can work as front desk clerks in the hotel industry. However, these positions are usually open to elder teens at least having 18 years of age. The primary task of front desk clerks includes greeting and serving the needs of checking and departing guests.

The job of clerks may be hectic as they have to change and cancel reservations, manage arrivals and check-out procedures, issue rooms keys, and collect payments. As the hotels are open for 24 hours, shifts may vary in the job role. Therefore front desk clerks can also expect to work in a later shift sometimes.

  1. Food Service

In hotels, room service and dining facilities are featured frequently because of which many food service jobs are available in this industry. Teens can work for delivering food to rooms as room service executives, or work as cashiers, waiters, servers, bussers, hosts, prep cooks, bussers, dishwashers, etc.  some other jobs like waiter or waitress jobs, are offered to teens for below minimum wage as they can earn part of their income through tips.

If you are really passionate about customer/client servicing however and take a job role that includes tips, you can earn a great and fairly good income.

  1. Concierge and Bellhop

Concierge and bellhop are the jobs where candidates need to be physically active in customer service positions. In these kinds of jobs, the teen is asked to work within a hotel’s lobby so that it will be easy to attend and address to each guest’s needs.

For example, a teen may transport bags and luggage to a hotel guest’s room, make reservations for guests dining, or address visitor queries about the surrounding area. As many of the job roles in this section can be scheduled anytime during the day or evening, most of the positions follow an earlier schedule.

Usually Guests require more service during daytime and so concierge and bellhop aspirants need to get ready to work during earlier hours.

  1. Housekeeping

Most of the time housekeepers are responsible for turning over rooms fast and efficiently. In this job role, candidates are asked to change bed linens, cleaning restrooms, providing fresh towels, dusting, and vacuuming, etc. As many of these jobs are scheduled for the morning, some of the work may also take place during the evening hours.

We all know that hotels have a huge guest crowd during the weekends, hence one must be open to working throughout the week.

On-the-job Training

One should go through the training process, even if you want to take a seasonal job in a hotel. Training helps us to acquire invaluable experience, , particularly if you want to settle in the hotel industry role after completion of graduation.

Even if you are planning to pursue your career in other management fields, working in a hotel can help you in developing your leadership skills and abilities to work with the team.

Working at a hotel or any resort ensures teens enjoy excellent perks and benefits either it may be full-time or part-time (in some instances). Few of the discounted dining at the hotel, discounted hotel stays or using hotel facilities, 401k retirement options.

Some of the facilities available for the servicing staff to use at discounted price includes a fitness center, golf facilities, tennis complex, spa, etc. these kinds of additional allowances make a career in the hotel and hospitality industry both rewarding and entertaining.
