My very first “luxury” purchase was a Michael Kors bag. To be honest, I later regretted it. In order to avoid a “failed” first purchase like mine, I decided to share with you tips for buying a luxury product for the first time, I will also talk about Ounass; the best website to shop for luxury in the Middle East, and finally I will be sharing with you a trick to save more money by using Ounass discount code.
1- WHICH BRANDS DO I CONSIDER AS A LUXURY BRAND?
I mentioned my first Michael Kors purchase above. You may have noticed, I allowed myself to put “luxury” in quotes, since with a little more hindsight (in any case, that’s my opinion), I don’t or no longer really consider Michael Kors as a luxury brand. The same is true for brands like Calvin Klein, Guess, or Ralph Lauren.
I consider that the real luxury brands sell products made by the hands of craftsmen trained according to the traditions of the house.
In short, after this first regrettable purchase, you can imagine that I thought for a long time before offering myself my very first (real) luxury bag, which was the “Never Full” bag from Louis Vuitton. Before making the decision to buy it, I took the time to do a lot of research to be absolutely sure that it would be a good investment and that it would suit me perfectly.
2- HOW TO MAKE THE DECISION TO BUY A LUXURY ITEM?
My golden rule when I’m tempted to buy myself a bag but I’m afraid that my desires are stronger than my reason is to follow this line of thought:
Before spending a large sum of money, I take the time to think about this purchase many times in advance. In other words, I try as best I can not to succumb to love at first sight. Of course, by waiting a little, we take the risk of not finding this particular piece or missing out on a promotion. If so, that’s nothing. It simply means that this purchase was not made to materialize. At least that’s what I like to say to myself!
I never allow myself a big expense if I don’t have the necessary money set aside to pay all my bills/rent over the next 2-3 months. Basically, I never touch my “safety net”, not even for the pleasure of buying a new bag or a new pair of shoes.
When are you going to use it? For what occasions and how often? If you don’t think you’ll wear it for 10% of its price, don’t buy it. A small example to illustrate my point: Bottenga Veneta’s Pouch Bag makes me really want it, but it costs $2700. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have the opportunity to wear it 270 times. So I remain wise, until the desire passes or that I find it cheaper second-hand.
3- BUYING LUXURY: NEW OR USED?
“Do I take it new or used? “Once I made the decision to buy a luxury item for the first time, I had to decide in what condition I wanted to get it. To make my choice, I took into account two factors:
At the time, I was not yet very comfortable with the idea of buying second-hand. I had no point of reference and I didn’t know enough about it.
Then, I wanted to fully live the experience of buying a luxury bag. That is to say, to go to the store, to go to Louis Vuitton, to discover the bags, to try them on in person, to get advice and to leave with my bag tidy in its beautiful packaging (which I always have in my possession, 5 years later!) I didn’t just want to have the bag, I wanted to have the full experience that came with it.
This may not be your case, and in this case, I want to say to you “more power to you”. You are much wiser than me!
4- DON’T BE ATTEMPTED BY FAST FASHION… WAIT, WHAT?
Fast fashion also exists in luxury. You probably know what I’m talking about: it’s about these super trendy pieces, which you see absolutely everywhere on the runway for a season or two, and which lose their popularity as quickly as they obtained it.
5- QUALITY BEFORE QUANTITY
Today, I am lucky to have a very nice collection of luxury bags and therefore to know a little about them. Between Dior, Chanel, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, I could notice a real difference in terms of quality. The know-how is not at all the same from one luxury house to another.
For the price of a Dior bag, you can easily afford two or three from Gucci, or a dozen from Zara or H&M. For a very long time, the desire to have a wide choice was stronger than that of having a single, beautiful piece. With age, this trend reversed. Especially since I am a mother and I know that one day I will bequeath my collection to my daughter. It will be much more valuable if it is made up of six bags from big houses, rather than 600 plastic bags made in China.
6- WHERE TO FIND HAPPINESS FOR LESS?
For a long time there was no way to get designer pieces on sale. But today, everything is possible thanks to some websites like Ounass.
Ounass offers discontinued pieces for very good prices which you can’t find elsewhere. My rough description doesn’t really sell dreams, but don’t let my lack of vocabulary fool you: this website is a real gold mine! I have to thank my friend Sarah for this beautiful discovery. I found a flat black suede thigh-high boots from Stuart Weitzman for $250 instead of $800! I also found some Valentino-branded pairs selling for two to three times less than their original price.
What is Ounass ?
Since their launch at the end of 2016, Ounass has become a benchmark for online shopping. The website has more than 150 brands and offers the latest in design and luxury products, whether it is fashion, lifestyle or beauty.
With perhaps the widest choice on the market, Ounass is the place to surf when it comes to luxury. From established brands to up-and-coming designers, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for here.
Ounass discount code
Yes ! you can save more money on Ounass by using Ounass discount code which is offered by Almowafir website, the best platform for promo codes in the Arab region.
If you are looking for a good reliable site to find second-hand luxury, I recommend without hesitation Vestiaries’ Collect if or The Real, which are sites that I love and that I use very often. However, by ordering from them, you risk having to pay customs fees.
Finally, I really do not advise you to go to eBay or Amazon for your luxury purchases, because there is no de facto control over resold products. You risk buying fakes. To avoid this, there is a very easy rule to follow: if a deal looks too good to be true… it must be a scam! A real Chanel will never be resold for $400.
