If you are a car owner, taking care of the Goodyear tyres Coventry of your car is of great significance. While it may appear that storing a set of tyres is essentially an easy job, that might not be the case. Rolling into spring, removing the winter tyres from your car and keeping them away is essential. But that needs to be done with proper care, and it requires special attention. This not only applies to winter tyres but all kinds, including summer, all-season and others.

Not taking care while storing the tyres can cause them to get damaged, decreasing their longevity. Therefore, it is very essential that you keep in mind the following points while storing away the tyres. Here are some of the things you should keep in mind when storing winter tyres so that you can use them for years to come.

Clean Your Tyres Thoroughly Before Covering

This is often skipped by many car owners when covering their tyres to store it away in their garage or basement. Unless you have a temperature-controlled garage which is often expensive to build, not taking care can destroy the integrity and stability of the tyre. UV rays are often the biggest enemy of your car tyre: the continuous heat and cold causes sidewall cracks.

Cleaning the tyres thoroughly before putting them away should be the first thing you must do. Without cleaning, the dirt and grim will stay put and create a layer deteriorating the rubber with time. Use a vacuum for removing the debris and use mild detergent and hose pipe to thoroughly clean it. You can even use a tyre protector before storing them.

Should You Store It In A Horizontal Or Vertical Way?

The safest way in which you should store the tyres is by keeping them vertically positioned. This way, you will not be putting a lot of weight and pressure on the tyre; therefore, help maintain the tyre shape. Usually, a lot of stores stack tyres one above the other that often puts a lot of pressure on the one at the end. If stacking the tyres, use a divider to stop the rubber from rubbing and getting affected.

If not mounted on rims, this could often create flat spots. Hanging them from hooks should be avoided as well. Use a rack to place them side by side and keep all of them at the same level.

Maintain Air Pressure And Store Properly

The tyre manual will have the necessary information on the air pressure that should be maintained accurately even when storing your winter tyres during the summertime. This helps in avoiding flat spots or faster wearing of the tread. It would be best if you can store your car tyres indoors to protect them from harsh external factors.

Use airtight bags to keep the external elements out and protect your tyres so that they are in pristine condition when you use them next year as well. When sealing, try to remove from the inside of the bag, creating a vacuum, to keep the tyre compounds from drying out.

Avoid Chemicals

When using tyre protectants, make sure to read the label and the ingredients sections regarding the chemicals that have been added. Protectants that have petroleum-based elements in them are your tyres worst enemies. This can easily cause weathering and cause early cracking.

Winter tyres offer several benefits. However, invest in good quality even though they can be expensive. Branded tyres go for the longest years, offering optimum performance. Once you have a fair idea regarding where to put the tyres, look out for the tread, properly inflate the tyres and use quality airtight bags.

This is everything you need to know about storing winter tyres. Keep them road-ready so that next year you can install them again without any hassle. Always seek professional help while installing winter Tyres Coventry to avoid mishaps and damaging the tyre.
