Looking to beautify your outdoor space for summer? These 10 easy-to-follow tips can help.

The garden is somewhere that tends to look great in summer, but over winter, it doesn’t have as great of a beauty routine. It rains, the wind blows, it snows, the leaves fall down, the weeds grow – it really goes through it for a few months. As a result, come spring, it isn’t looking so good. To help you get it back to beautiful easily, follow these 10 simple steps:

  1. Lawn Care

The lawn is often the largest feature of any garden. With that in mind, beautifying your lawn is a great start to beautifying the garden as a whole. You’ll want to remove any debris, give it the first mow of the year when it’s dry, and apply weed and grass seed mix.

  1. Weeding

Weeds continue to grow over winter, if not as vigorously as they do in the warmer months. Getting on top of them now means you won’t be playing catch-up for the warmer months. Remove all the weeds that are there whilst also playing weed material and treatment to prevent them coming back.

  1. Decluttering

Garden clutter easily accumulates. Plant pots, broken ornaments, garden toys, tools – the list is endless. Try to remove everything that you don’t need or use to streamline your outdoor space and remove eyesores.

  1. Fixing

Broken fences, gates, path tiles and other winter damage should be fixed at this stage. This is especially true with anything that affects the safety or functionality of your garden.

  1. Attractive Storage

Items like wheelie bins, storage tubs, tools, garden accessories and toys should be attractively stored as not to detract from the overall garden aesthetic. Wooden cover-stores for items like bins are great and easy to make yourself. You then have options like sheds for other items you need immediate access to. Anything you don’t need immediate access to, like camping gear or more substantial tools could be placed into temporary storage. Cheap self storage is also handy when winter comes back around and you need to store your garden furniture.

  1. Functionality

A dysfunctional garden is a garden that is not nice to look at or spend time in. Could you zone your garden better? Could you add decking or a covered space for socialising? Think carefully about the functionality of your garden and adjust it ready to make the most of it in summer.

  1. Lighting

In the daytime your garden might be beautiful, but does it have any nighttime lighting? If it doesn’t, think fairy lights, lanterns and solar lights. They will provide ambience, safety and more usability of the space in the evening. The right lighting also gives your garden a beautiful softly lit hue for those nighttime parties and dinners.

  1. Painting

A lick of paint will instantly add colour to your garden. Paint the fences, sheds, decking and any furniture to add some interest to the overall look of your outdoor space.

  1. Planting

Plant out some summer bulbs for a burst of colour later in the year. It is also worth planting some veggies and fruits if you want more functionality from the garden. You can easily grow these plant types in pots if you’re stuck for space and time.

  1. Final Touches

The final touches of your garden beautification are adding little elements that will make it feel like a polished space. These kinds of touches could include;

  • Candles and lanterns
  • Bunting
  • Ornaments
  • Mature potted plants and hanging baskets
  • Colourful soft furnishings
  • Garden furniture
  • Wildlife items like bird feeders

Following the steps above your garden will improve dramatically. Soon enough you’ll have an outdoor space that looks stunning, giving the whole family somewhere beautiful to enjoy in the warmer months.
