How to Configure Orbi WiFi System to Use Google Assistant

Have you ever thought to use Google Assistant with your Orbi WiFi system? If yes, there is good news for you! With Netgear Orbi WiFi system, you can now easily use Google Assistant to perform your daily tasks using your melodious voice.

There are two ways to enable Google Assistant on your Orbi:

  • You can use the ‘Ok Google, talk to Netgear’ command
  • You can manually link your Netgear account to your Google Home

You can choose any of the aforementioned methods to get the job done.

Steps to Follow Before Enabling Google Assistant on Orbi

Prior to configuring your Netgear Orbi to work with Google Assistant, make sure to follow the below-given steps

Update firmware of your Orbi router

Check the current firmware version on your Orbi router. In case it is outdated, manually update the firmware. For that, download and save a copy of the updated firmware file and then visit orbilogin com web-based page to update the Orbi router firmware.

Download the Netgear Orbi app

You can download the Orbi app from Google Play or App Store as per the OS of your mobile device.

Create a Netgear account

In order to create a Netgear account, you require to fill in all the necessary details like first name, last name, email, phone number, etc.

Enable the remote access on your Orbi WiFi system

For this, make sure to have an active internet connection on your device. After that, go to the Netgear Orbi login web page and toggle the button of the Remote Access option to enable it.

Register your Netgear Orbi WiFi system

Open the Netgear Orbi app and log in to your account. Once done, tap on the Register Product option and get your Orbi device registered.

Link your Orbi router to the Google Assistant

Log in to your Orbi account and click on the Link option. Select the Google Assistant option from the prompted list. Finally, click on the Accept button.

As soon as you have successfully followed the aforementioned steps, you can get started with the Orbi configuration process for making the Google Assistant work with it.

Use Google Assistant With Orbi WiFi System

  1. Make sure that your mobile device is connected to a fast WiFi network.
  2. Download and install the Google Assistant app on your smartphone.
  3. Once installed, open the app.
  4. Tap on the Search icon.
  5. Type ‘Netgear’ in the search bar.
  6. A list of search results will appear on the screen.
  7. Tap on the Netgear account login link.
  8. You will be redirected to the Netgear sign in web page.
  9. Enter your login details and click on the Sign In button.
  10. At last, click on the Accept button to agree with the stated terms and conditions.

That’s all! The Netgear Orbi WiFi system is linked to Google Assistant now. If you are facing any issue during the process, do Orbi factory reset once and try again.

Now, you can start giving commands to your Google Assistant for working with your Orbi. Let’s have a look at some commands you can use to instruct Google Assistant:

  • Ok Google, turn the guest network OFF.
  • Ok Google, turn the guest network ON.
  • Ok Google, what are the WiFi settings?
  • Ok Google, what is the password of guest network?
