If your computer is getting out of storage space because of too many copies of images, then this article will help you find and remove those duplicate pictures with some techniques.

Photos play a very important role when it comes to remembering the past. They are the best time capsules because they can bring back memories and feelings that have been lost to time. However, they build up quickly and take up a lot of space on our devices.

Most of the blame for this mess comes from the many copies of our photos that we have on our phones and other devices. They come up because we don’t pay attention. The process of deleting these duplicates is easy, and we are here to show you how. In this article, you’ll learn how to remove duplicate photos in Windows 11/10 with a few simple steps.

Different Ways to Find and Remove Duplicate Pictures On Windows Devices

Below we have shared various ways through which you can delete duplicate images from your computer to create more storage space.

Method1: Use Windows Photos App

This is one of the most basic ways to get rid of duplicate photos from a Windows device. A lot of different things can be done with the Windows Photo Gallery app, including deleting the same images.

There isn’t a way to make Windows Photo Gallery automatically look for duplicate photos that you have. However, after a lengthy and hectic process, it’s quick and easy to remove duplicate photos manually once you’ve found the duplicate images manually. You can follow the simple steps shared below to get rid of all of your duplicate photos.

Step 1: Click on the taskbar’s search box and search the Photos app in it.

Step 2: Now, go to the Album section by selecting it from the top of the page.

Step 3: Then, select the Album from which you wish to delete the duplicate images.

Step 4: Open any photo in the app and then with the help of the arrow keys move to the next one. If a similar photo comes on your screen, click on the Bin icon present on top of the window to delete the photo.

Step 5: To Delete multiple photos at the same time, you need to press and hold the CTRL button and select the photos. Then, you can either press the Delete key to move them into the recycle bin or press the Shift + Delete keys simultaneously to delete them permanently.

Method2: Remove Duplicate Photos with File Explorer

File Explorer is a Windows-integrated utility that helps you to manage and access all kinds of files. This utility doesn’t have the feature to automatically point out duplicate images and delete them.

However, there are some ways through which you can delete duplicate and similar images on your Windows PC using File Explorer. Follow the instructions given below to use this tool:

Step 1: Open the File Explorer window by searching it in the Start menu or by selecting it from the Start menu’s context list.

Step 2: Select the Drive from which you wish to remove these extra images.

Step 3: Now, open a Folder that contains the duplicate photos.

Step 4: Then, right-click on a space within the page and it will open a context menu list. Expand the View option and then go with the Large icons option.

Step 5: Again, open the context menu list by right-clicking on a space. Then, expand the Sort by option and select either the Size option or the Name option.

Step 6: Select the View tab from the top of the window and then choose the Details pane option.

Step 7: Look for the duplicate pictures and select them by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on them.

Step 8: Now, to move them to the recycle bin, press the Delete button on your keyboard. Or else to remove them permanently from your computer, tap Shift and Delete keys together and click on the Yes button on the dialog box that pops up on your screen.

Method3: Take Help from Command Prompt

By default, Windows adds “-Copy” to the end of files that have already been saved. In addition, they have a number that shows how many times that file has been copied. This makes it easier to find them using the sort feature, which we talked about above.

But if there are a lot of copies, it may seem impossible to get rid of them all. You can make things easier for yourself, though, by using the Command Prompt. Below are some steps that will help you with the process.

Step 1: Type Command Prompt in the taskbar’s search box and then select the “Run as administrator” option.

Step 2: Now, open File Explorer by searching it in the taskbar and then visit the folder that contains duplicate images in it.

Step 3: Open the options list by right-clicking on the folder. Then, choose the Copy as path option from the list.

Step 4: Then, paste the “folder-location” in the Command Prompt window and press the Enter key on your keyboard.

Step 5: Type: “del “* – Copy.jpeg” and hit Enter.

Performing this command will remove all the duplicate pictures from that folder. And if you want an easy way out or want to automatically delete all the duplicate images, then try using a duplicate picture remover app. You can choose from a million different options available online.

Wrapping Up: Method to Find and Remove Duplicate Photos On Windows 11 PC

We hope the different methods mentioned in this guide will help you clean duplicate photos from your Windows device. If your computer has a ROM with less storage space, you can buy an external hard drive. If you have any questions or suggestions related to this write-up share them in the comment section below.
