Migrate G Suite Contacts to Office 365 for Single/Domain User(s)

G Suite (formerly known as Google Apps) and Microsoft Office 365 provide users with cloud-based software and application collaboration suites. As the above two services are in a leadership position among cloud service providers, there is a tendency for users to switch between them. Manual method to export G Suite contacts to Office 365

The manual technique requires 2 stages for completion. These are as follows:

  1. Export G Suite contacts in CSV
  2. Import the CSV file into Office 365.

Stage 1: Export G Suite contacts in CSV format

  • Log in to your G Suite account.
  • Go to Google Contacts from Apps.

  • In the next window that appears, select the Outlook CSV format option.

Stage 2: Import the CSV file into your Office 365 account

  1. Log in to Microsoft Office 365 and open Outlook (required O365 account configured in MS Outlook)
  2. Click File >> Open and Export >> Import / Export.
  3. Select the option to import from another program or file, then click Next.
  4. Select CSV (Comma Separated Value) as the file type, then click Next.
  5. Browse the CSV file containing G Suite contacts.
  6. Choose how Outlook will treat duplicate contacts and click the Next button.
  7. Click the Finish button, all Google Suite contacts will be transferred to Office 356.

Immediately after the contact transfer is completed, open MS Outlook and select the corresponding mailbox and contact address book name. G Suite contacts will also be visible here.

Top issues when migrating G Suite contacts to Office 365 with manual method

Errors often occur when transferring G Suite contacts. Let’s look at some common problems/limitations that users encounter when trying to migrate G Suite contacts to Office 365.

  1. Loss of contact information: After manually exporting contacts, some G Suite contact fields in Office 365 may be lost. In fact, this is the most common problem when migrating contacts from G Suite.
  2. An error message is displayed: If you try to export more than 2000 Google address books, an error message will appear on the screen. To avoid this situation, the number of contacts for each export is less than 2000.
