Ph.D in Law – Is it Worth Spending Your Time in This Course?

For an in-depth study in any subject, a Ph.D. is what aspirants go for. The number of enrolments has been increasing over the years explaining the need for such literate professionals in every domain.

One such field where Ph.D. plays a pivotal role is Law. A Ph.D. in Law- India is a 3-year full-time doctorate programme where students get trained in the detailed study of the legal procedures of the law and give a chance to contribute to the growth of law as an academic field. This degree perfects the individual in nuances of the Indian legal system including existing doctrines. Usually, the criteria for top Law Schools in India is –

LL.M. with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade. Applicants with more than 3 years of industry/ teaching/practising/ managerial/ professional experience are given preference.

Master’s Degree in a discipline relevant to the proposed research with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade having a minimum of 3 years of managerial/ professional experience.

The University Hall of Residence for students consists of several blocks of the building designed by a French architect. There are corridors, open spaces, and common rooms within each block. There are separate blocks for male and female students. The accommodation for students in these blocks follows international norms and the rooms are aesthetically furnished. Hygiene is an important consideration in these Halls.

Besides, the campus provides recreational facilities including a gymnasium and other indoor and outdoor games. The surroundings are fully landscaped with lawns, bushes, and trees.

The minimum & maximum period of study and research shall not be less than 3 years from the date of enrolment (36 months) & 7 years (84 months) respectively from the date of provisional registration of the candidate. However, this varies with each university, and in case of exceptional performance, relaxation is given too. All the above discussion gives a clear insight into how advantageous is Ph.D in law for the candidates seeking pinnacle education in law. But it should always be kept in mind that you pursue this program from a prestigious college/ university specializing in law. This is how you grow not only in the legal world but also in your overall life.
