With teams like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the Bangladesh women cricket team was viewed as an underdog at the Asia Cup. They exceeded everyone’s expectations and made themselves a force to be reckoned with. The initial target of the team to make it into the playoffs turned to making it into the finals to winning the Asia Cup. If that was not enough, they made another historic breakthrough of winning their first ever maiden bilateral win in a series with Ireland during their tour of England. They won with a lead of 2-1 in the three T-20 International matches. The way the team ranked at the 9th position converted a last-ball final into winning the Asia Cup was nothing short of a wonder.

To keep the momentum of winning the Asia Cup and the T-20 International going, they went ahead on tour to the Netherlands to further get geared up for the T-20 International World Cup. They showed a stellar performance in each and every match to shock and awe the world. The T-20 World Cup Qualifier, the Bangladesh women cricket team proved their mettle by swooping away every single match of the Group qualifiers. They won against teams like Papua New Guinea women, the Netherlands and UAE to beat Scotland women’s team in the semi-finals to ultimately qualify for the World cup 2019 by beating Ireland by a huge margin.

Each of these wins not only boosted their place in the icc women’s world cup 2020 but also made them crowd favourite with a huge fan base. Probably the only event that dampened their unbreakable record of winning was the T-20 International matches with Pakistan’s women cricket team. Bangladesh lost out to the T-20 series with Pakistan with 3-0 out of 4 matches where 1 was not played. The blow of the loss was softened as the Bangladesh women cricket team settled the score with Pakistan by winning the one-off ODI.

Even after all these wins, the Tigresses have maintained a good standard of winning at the T-20I practice matches help in 2019. In all, the last couple years have been impressive for the women’s cricket team from Bangladesh in making their country prominent on the world cricket map. Their incessant hardwork and determination made them not only a success overnight but a force of success with a series of win. This is the story of the continual rise of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team as the world hopes to see them perform this beautifully in the years to come as well.
