Microsoft provided a new feature of virtual background to improve the quality of your video calling. Microsoft introduces the new feature of blurring the real background for Microsoft Teams Meetings in 2018. This is an unbelievable way to hide your real background. This will apply a cover to the real background by using blur features to the background that prevents the interruption due to inappropriate background. Microsoft recently introduced the feature of custom background in April 2020. Now, Microsoft Teams users or participants can change their actual or real backgrounds with free virtual team backgrounds. To use the background effects in your video conferencing call, you may use Windows and Mac, but the feature of virtual background is not available on Linux. You can use images offered by Microsoft or you can use and upload the virtual background images from the internet. You must ensure that the video Filter mode setting must be active if you want to use a customized background. This setting allows you to control the command to blur or customize the background image.
- Supporting Hardware and Client requirement
If you want to use the custom feature for virtual background of the Microsoft, you just need to fulfill these conditions:
- You must need the software that supports the feature of blurring the real background. Browser Client of Team does not support the feature of blurring the real background.
- The updated version of Teams Client 1.3.00.8663 or above supports the feature of blurring the background. You should go through the updated function in the Settings to get the updated version of the software.
- This update has been sent to other people.
- Selecting a custom image for background
When you begin an online business meeting, you should click on the three-dot in the menu bar. Then click on the option “Apply background effects”. Then select the custom image that you want to use as a virtual background. The options are:
- None ( it means no background)
- Blur ( it means blurring the background)
- Select images that are provided by Microsoft
- Select images that are you download from the internet
You can choose the best-suited background before the call begin. There is no option to choose a default background for all your online meetings. You need to select the virtual background for every video conferencing call individually. For instance, if you want to show your messy home to a neat and clean office, you may change your real background to an office background.
- Upload the Custom images
You can upload the proper and suitable virtual office backgrounds for your online meetings. Earlier, the custom images were manually uploaded to a specific folder on the Client PC or laptop. The Microsoft Teams Client was updated to support the function of a virtual background in June 2020. If you want to add the custom image through Microsoft Teams desktop client, you should select the option “Apply background effects” and then select the “Add New” option in the menu. Open the folder of your images and select a suitable image. Microsoft Teams will then copy the file to the Microsoft Teams background folder. Once the selected image is copied to the background folder of the Microsoft Teams, you can use the copied image in your video calling. Sometimes it may possible that you select a mistaken image and you want to remove that image, to remove that wrong image select the “Remove” option and Microsoft Teams will delete the wrongly selected image. But there is no option to delete the images that are offered by Microsoft.
