How do you test at home whether your watch is waterproof or water-resistant?

Today, most watches are water-resistant. But did you know that this does not always mean that they are also waterproof? We understand that these terms can be quite confusing. In the end, you just want to know if you can wear your watch underwater or not, right? That is why we want to explain the difference to you and get rid of the confusion once and for all.

The water-resistance of your watch

A watch that is water-resistant may come into contact with water to a limited extent. For example, if a water resistance rating is engraved on the back of your watch, which says it is water-resistant to 30 meters, it does not mean you can dive it 30 meters deep.

The water resistance rating is assigned by the manufacturer and is based on 3 factors: the crown, the case and the seals. Everyday conditions, such as the occasional battery change and aging seals, can decrease the watch’s resistance to water over time. That is why we recommend that you have your watch tested to ensure that no water enters the watch case.

How do you test the water-resistance of your watch?

There are several ways to express the water-resistance of a waterproof watch: BAR, ATM and meter are used for this. But what do they mean? Let’s take a look at our water resistance guide for watches you can also visit here for first cory replica watches India

ATM guide

So actually:

  • 3 ATM / bar / 30m:  this watch is resistant to rain and splash water.
  • 5 ATM / bar / 50m:  this watch is waterproof and can be worn while swimming. But you shouldn’t jump tower with such a watch. They are also not suitable for wearing while snorkeling or diving.
  • 10 ATM / bar / 100m: This watch is waterproof and suitable for most kinds of water sports, such as swimming, sailing and snorkeling in shallow water. But if you’re planning to dive off rocks, don’t wear this watch – it’s not waterproof enough!
  • 20 ATM / bar / 200m: This watch is waterproof and suitable for all types of water sports, including diving.

Extra tip : It’s also good to know that if your watch doesn’t have any text or symbols related to water resistance, it’s probably not even protected against splashes or perspiration.

Condensation on the inside of the glass?

This does not necessarily mean that the watch is leaking. Condensation can form when a watch suddenly cools down. The moisture in the air inside the watch then forms a light haze on the inside of the glass. If the drops are larger, the watch is not properly waterproof. This must then be repaired to avoid further damage to the timepiece.
